Day 1:

Monday, July 7 - Depart U. S.
Depart the United States for Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
 

Day 2:

Tuesday, July 8 - Arrive in Brazil / Rio Beaches / Christ the Redeemer
Upon arrival in Rio de Janeiro, your People to People representative, delegation manager, and motor coach driver will welcome you to Brazil. After clearing customs, they will provide the opportunity to change money on your own motor coach. Depart by motor coach to Barra da Tijuca beach. Lunch will be served at Bibi Sucos, within walking distance from the beach. After lunch, you will venture to the top of Corcovado Hill to see the world-famous statue of Christ the Redeemer. On your way to Corcovado, you will drive by Copacabana beach and Rocinha favela (biggest in the world). Depart early evening to Sao Jose dos
Campos. Depending on traffic, possible presentation by Roque Jr. at his club, Primeira Camisa FC.

Day 3:

Wednesday, July 9 - Roque Jr. CT / Basilica Nossa Sra. de Aparecida
Spend the morning training with Brazilian coaches and scrimmaging at the famous Roque Jr. Centro de Futebol. Roque Jr. is Brazil's most successful player. Voted by FIFA as "best defender" of the 2002 WC, Roque has also achieved what no other player to this day could. During his career, Roque Jr. has won every main international title in the world: Libertadores, Champions League and the World Cup. In the afternoon, take the opportunity to visit the second-biggest basilica in the world after the Vatican, Basilica Nossa Sra. de Aparecida. Evening departure to training camp.

Day 4:

Thursday, July 10 - Skills Assessment / Training Camp
For the next four days, your training camp will be conducted by Steve Sampson, former head coach of the U.S. National Team, and his coaching staff. Undergo a morning skill assessment evaluation. Spend the rest of the day raising your game to the next level. Depending on your itinerary, you may also participate in a cultural excursion.

Day 5:

Friday, July 11 - Training Camp / Fazenda Capoava
Continue training this morning as you polish your skills and practice with your team for the first time in preparation for the first international friendly match. In the afternoon, venture to one of the oldest coffee plantations in the state of Sao Paulo.

Day 6:

Saturday, July 12 - Training Camp / Friendly Games
Start your day with another morning of intensive training with Coach Sampson's staff. Spend the rest of your day relaxing and enjoying, once again, the beautiful mountains of Santa Filomena, or competing with your team at a friendly match depending on your age group schedule.

Day 7:

Sunday, July 13 - Friendly Games / Morumbi Stadium
During your team's scheduled match time, you will have the opportunity to scrimmage against regional teams, as Coach Sampson and his coaching staff wrap up their final training days with the group. This afternoon, attend an amazing soccer atmosphere with the local derby at Morumbi Stadium between Sao Paulo FC and Palmeiras. During the evening, attend an orientation meeting.

Day 8:

Monday, July 14 - Transfer to Sao Paulo or Santos
Spend the morning at another cultural experience. In the afternoon, check into your accommodations and participate in a light training session. This evening, enjoy an interactive meeting with Brazilian coaching staff.

Day 9:

Tuesday, July 15 - Training Session and/or Friendly Games
A session of team practice and simulated real-game situations will bring you closer to putting in a peak performance for your friendly match. Scrimmages against other teams will enhance your skills, and you will have an opportunity to grow as an athlete as you bond with athletes from various athletic and cultural backgrounds. Depending on your itinerary, you may also participate in a cultural excursion.

Day 10:

Wednesday, July 16 - Training Session / Friendly Games at EC Pinheiros or Santos
This morning's training will be spent honing your techniques through team practice and real-game situations in preparation for more friendly matches. You may also participate in a cultural excursion.

Day 11:  

Thursday, July 17 - Training Session and/or Friendly Games
Spend the morning working yourself to the brink of peak performance in anticipation of the upcoming friendly matches. Depending on your itinerary, you may also participate in a cultural excursion.

Day 12:  

Friday, July 18 - Transfer Day / "Gol de Letra," Charity for Street Children
Wake up and pack your bags! Following a late breakfast, you will journey to your new destination. This afternoon, visit a local entity where you will share gifts to help underprivileged peers with sport supplies, and cook an American-style BBQ for them. In the spirit of People to People, you will learn about their school days, share things about yourself, and form friendships that could last a lifetime.

Day 13:

Saturday, July 19 - Training Session and/or Friendly Games / Praia da Juréia
Get accustomed with the Brazilian style of small-sided fields trainings, and the sport of futsal. As you compete in friendly matches, note how your styles of play differ from your competition. Depending on your itinerary, you may also participate in a trip to one of the Rio-SP coast's most exotic, beautiful, and clean beaches, Juréia.

Day 14:

Sunday, July 20 - Training Session / Pro Match
Today features inner-squad competitions with fun activities testing your now refined skills, such as the two vs. two Heading Beach Tournament. In the afternoon, attend another thrilling pro match in Morumbi or Vila Belmiro Stadium (depending on your group's daily itinerary.)

Day 15:

Monday, July 21 - Training Session / Friendly Games at EC Pinheiros or Santos
As your journey nears the end, you will spend one final morning in training, or in friendly games. Give it your ALL! You may spend a few hours immersed in one of Brazil's unique environments.

Day 16:

Tuesday, July 22 - Depart for the United States
After enjoying a leisurely breakfast, you will pack your suitcase for the last time! This afternoon you will be taken on a sightseeing tour of Sao Paulo. On the way to the airport, you will enjoy an early dinner at a Brazilian steak house. We hope you've learned a great deal, created valuable friends, and had plenty of fun along the way.
 

Day 17: 

Wednesday, July 23 - Arrive in the United States
Due to the flight departure to the United States being later in the evening, athletes will arrive in the United States on the morning of July 23.


 


During the program, every Sports Ambassador will take part in the following:

  • Corcovado Hill / statue of Christ the Redeemer

  • Rio beaches

  • Roque Jr's Centro de Futebol

  • Basilica Nossa Sra. de Aparecida

  • Fazenda Capoava

  • Morumbi or Vila Belmiro Stadium

  • Training by Steve Sampson and his coaching staff

  • Training by Brazilian coaches

  • Pro players appearances

  • Attend a pro training session

  • Visit the Mimosa Brazilian Arts and Crafts Souvenir Store

  • Visit Pelé's Museum

  • School visit: "Gol de Letra" Charity for Street Kids

  • Attend two pro matches

  • Compete in at least three "friendly games"

  • Two vs. two Heading Beach Tournament

  • Learn a new sport(s): futsal and futvolei

  • Sao Paulo motor coach city tour

  • Visit and compete at EC Pinheiros or Santos

  • Praia da Jureia

  • Service project

    •  Brazil participants: People to People athletes will visit a local entity, Gol de Letra, (charity for street children), where you will share gifts to help underprivileged peers with sport supplies (old soccer equipment), and cook an American-style BBQ for them. In the spirit of People to People, you will learn about their school days, share things about yourself, and form friendships that could last a lifetime.

        • Notebooks, pencils, and other school equipment

competition schedules or weather.
